QUESTION POSED ON: 14 June 2005
After installing Windows 2000 Server, I updated it directly through the Internet from the Microsoft Windows Update site. There are so many updates available there, it takes me an hour to complete them. What is the path where these updates are saved so I can update my other servers through my LAN (I don't want to use the Microsoft SUS service)?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
These updates are not saved in any usable form. To obtain these updates and hotfixes in a format that will allow you to update other machines with the files, look for the network download version of service packs, and download each individual hotfix from its Microsoft Knowledge Base Page. This is the only alternative to SUS in this case if you don't want to use the standard Windows Update site. (It's a lot of work to do this, and I fear that it might cause you to fall behind on your patching, which leads me to recommend that you simply continue using Windows Update for this type of patching.)
