QUESTION POSED ON: 01 July 2005
We need to prevent LAN users (Windows 2000 Active Directory domain) from uploading files via Internet Explorer 6. We installed NAT and we have Internet connection sharing. Users must be able to browse and download files and documents as normal, but we have some important files that we don't want anyone to send via e-mail or FTP. How can we prevent it from happening?

EXPERT RESPONSE
This sounds like a job for packet sniffers and filters on the firewall. I don't know of any way to disallow IE or Outlook from uploading data to random sites. Another option is to investigate the Rights Management Server solution from Microsoft, which works with Office documents to protect where they're sent, who can read them, and if copies can be made.
