QUESTION POSED ON: 18 August 2005
By enabling auditing on a File&Print server, what does it give you? Is there a performance implication when you enable it?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
Enabling this type of auditing can give you various reports on the actions of your users. I've written an auditing tip that's been published on SearchWindowsSecurity.com that discusses auditing in detail; I'm sure you'll find it helpful.

There is a slight performance hit by enabling auditing, but unless your hardware is more than five years old or you have an unusually busy server, I doubt you'll notice it.
