QUESTION POSED ON: 19 May 2007
One of my computers has become locked. We are running Windows 2000. Upon startup, the machine says that the user has been locked out and to contact our network administrator. Each computer is standalone and not on a network. What could be causing our user to be locked out of his Windows 2000 machine?

EXPERT RESPONSE
A number of things could cause a Windows 2000 lockout. Can you log in as administrator? Try disabling the account and re-enabling it. I would also try to make changes to the account (user name, password, etc.) to see if that refreshes anything in the local database. If you can't get anything to work, I recommend copying all of the user's data in his My Documents folder, etc., and just recreating the account.
