QUESTION POSED ON: 22 August 2007
If I have an attacker's machine number and/or IP address, is there a way to find this person or his company?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
You can perform reverse lookups on DNS and IP addresses at www.dnsstuff.com. The only problem is that your attacker may have a dynamic IP address or may be attacking you from someone else's system. It could be difficult to trace back, but if it's serious enough (i.e., you can prove damages), it wouldn't hurt to contact a local or state cybercrime investigator.
