Updates to ISA Server imminent |

The next service updates for Microsoft's Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004 will likely be available in the next few weeks.
ISA Server SP2 was expected by the end of January but should be out in early February instead. The service pack is expected to contain three new enhancements; the SP will include Microsoft update caching, HTTP compression and traffic prioritization, according to a presentation given to an ISA Server expert.
The ISA Server enhancements highlight Microsoft's growing efforts in the branch office, said Jeff Duntemann, a Colorado Springs, Colo., author and ISA Server expert who reviewed the document after it was sent to him by SearchWin2000.com.
The new features specifically benefit IT managers who need to troubleshoot problems in branch offices. So much of the communication with the branch office depends on VPN quality, and these features give IT managers more options, Duntemann said.
Microsoft also manufactures an ISA Server 2004 Enterprise Edition. The enterprise version has never had a service pack update. The next version of ISA Server, code-named Wolvereen, is expected to be released in the second half of 2006.
